Bush Birds
This artist conk was collected from a hemlock tree, (as most are) in the Clayquot Sound. It was brought to me with the twigs intact. The twigs are delicate and easily breakable. As I pondered the piece the sun shone through shadowing the twigs on the piece. I carefully burned more twigs, branches behind the actual twigs and as an added character, put in three bush birds. I call them bush birds as we have numerous birds on our property that find shelter, food and just play within the bushes. They are not any particular species, just images of the mind.
As with anything that has delicate pieces, the twigs grown into the fungus are very delicate as they have become very dry. We had a slight accident when at one display a young boy reached up and grabbed the twigs breaking a few off, the father quickly picked up the child and rushed away. Although the piece is slightly damaged in my eyes it is still a lovely display piece that shows how nature encompasses itself.
